I Won In The End

There were times when I felt invisible,
I felt tiny amongst the tall.
There were times when the climb seemed impossible
and my ultimate fate was to fall,
and my voice was a cry in the wilderness
in a canyon of echoes and ghosts
now the people who heard
every cry every word
won't forget me or let me descend
because I won in the end.

There were times when I thought of suicide
because living was more like decay.
I felt like a snowflake in paradise
slowly melting in silence away.
There were times when my friends had deserted me
and when love was a thing in a dream,
now the love that I feel
is a feeling that's real
and I no longer have to pretend
because I won in the end.

I have tried and I've failed
and I've failed again
and again in my shame and embarrassment.
I kept pounding away
every day after day
every step of the way
to today.

There were times when I felt utter loneliness
like a wanderer lost in the fog.
There were times when I cried out in holiness,
only silence returned from my god.
There were times when I hated the Universe,
and I wanted to punish them all
but now in victory
where I'm destined to be
there's a message I've wanted to send
I won,
I won,
I won in the end.
