Just Another Day

Anne was a working girl it's true,
her hair was a chestnut hue.
Dirty as a rag doll
in a crooked wood hole.
Thin as only hunger is.

Smoke curled away to the lemon sky
and dad gave a wheezing sigh.
Brown upon the bent glass.
Filthy bed and fag ash.
Annie creaks beyond the wall.

Just another day Saint Martin.
Just another day Saint Paul.
Just another crown to lay me down.
God bless us all.

Just another cough for Clements.
Just another tiny fall.
Just another day for mum and Jane.
God bless us all.

Cats jump at flies on the grass outside.
The road like a river wide.
Smiling mum and Janet,
on another planet.
A photograph she hides inside.

Anne was a working girl it's true.
Her arms were a deathly hue.
Greyer than a bleak sky
in a prisoners eye.
Dirty as a salty bed.

Just another day Saint Martin.
Just another day Saint Paul.
Just another crown to lay me down.
God bless us all.

Just another cough for Clements.
Just another tiny fall.
Just another day for mum and Jane.
God bless us all.
