About this painting
Painted in several delicate layers of paint over several months, and incorporating my typical amber-in-walnut-oil media, as used by Elizabethan and Flemish masters of the 17th century, this oil portrait on panel was developed for an exhibition of self-portraits.

One of my most detailed portraits in oil, the painting shows me at the end of a day spent considering ideas for self-portraits. The image captures the feeling of time escaping, the cusp of night, and the black hole represents the lack of that idea, the nothingness placed above the forehead like an empty thought.

Yet, look, the hole also forms an eye, and the sun of the hand-made frame with 23.5kt gold oversees all. The idea is there, the burning mind of light, eternal determination at the end of a long day.

Technical details
The hand-made frame is an integral part of this artwork elaborate and made from hardwood and plaster with 23.5 ct. gold and acrylic mirror corners.
