About this painting
I thought of this idea while tied up working on the huge Eden Iris and other major projects. I became frustrated at not painting smaller and simpler paintings, and hadn't come up with new ideas in a several months, so I decided to quickly think up an idea. I sketched this and painted it in a relatively short time.

This is about the passing of time. I included a sunset, the idea of a shadow moving away, and repeating the heart shape like a visual echo. The frame design was part of the original idea, with the sun there contrasting with the painted moon.

A hand reaches for the warmth the sun soon to pass. The distant moon in the sky is separate from the sun in the frame, a sun hot but blocked off by the physical wooden barrier at the edge of the painting. Holes in the frame echo the lunar phases.
