About this sculpture

I read an Internet article on the dangers of excessive masturbation in October 2011 and decided that a tool for timing an appropriate delay would be a fun thing to make.

The principle is simple, a marble egg is placed on a ring each morning, and when two eggs are in place it is acceptable to masturbate. The initial plan involved three rings but I changed this to two, as three days seemed just too long. The title stemmed from a partial joke, that Jesus' mother was called Mary and her sister was also Mary and that both were present at the crucifixion (I thought that St. Anne was Mary's sister, but my mother seemed to think that there were two sisters). I liked the idea of lots of Marys and, in the true spirit of this amusing object, thought of the eggs as two Marys.

The stone eggs were so white that they looked uncomfortably testicular so I selected a different brown egg for one. The initial plan was to use transparent crystal eggs of a bright colour.
