You're Not Going To Get Everything That You Want

Floating like a feather in a pool.
Falling like a ragdoll from a cliff.
Drifting like a cloud over the sea.
(bell)

The neighbours knocking at the door
and kids are sprawled upon the floor.
The 1950's brown and grey
is helping all the grime decay
as father reading local news
is puffing on his pipe bemused
again.

The gravy train is running late
as gravy runs across the plate.
The steam is like a ghostly cow.
The children have stopped playing now.
The lightbulb gives a final cough
and dies before the meters off
it's food.

You're not going to get everything that you want so just don't try.
You're not going to get everything that you want so just don't try.

The kitchen sink is having fits
as father hammers all the bits.
The baby screams the night away.
The children run about and play
as neighbours bang the walls about
the only comprehensive shouts
are theirs.

The clatter as the post arrives.
The man is late to fit the tiles.
The mist is closing like a door.
A breakfast like the day before.
The air is thick with smoke again.
The children off to school and then
repeat.

You're not going to get everything that you want so just don't try.
You're not going to get everything that you want so just don't try.
You're not going to get everything that you want so just don't try.
[Floating like a feather in a pool]
You're not going to get everything that you want so just don't try.
[Falling like a ragdoll from a cliff]
You're not going to get everything that you want so just don't try.
[Drifting like a cloud over the sea]

The 1950's brown and grey
