About this painting
This is a more accomplished version of one of my earliest paintings. Rhinos are a species near the edge of extinction and this picture with a dreamy, almost nostalgic, feel aims to create an impression of both the creatures themselves and their precarious situation. The symbolism of the work perhaps conveys a second meaning of ageing, a loss of youth and love.

The eye of a rhinoceros looks out over a dreamy landscape. Trees become legs, then stone columns in a plain of rocks and bones. The leaping fish is the only sign of life in this desert of statues.
