About this event
A new suite of piano music by Mark Sheeky and projected video by Sabine Kussmaul. Cycles was the first work in this format to be started from the beginning as one unified piece.

Cycles follows the form of The Anatomy of Emotions, six pieces of about four minutes. Each piece consists of projected video and a solo piano music composition. Unlike with The Anatomy of Emotions there are no spoken word components in Cycles, although words are included in the video.

The theme of Cycles was inspired by this occasion; an invitation by arts organisation Art Up Close to perform at the opening to an art exhibition called In All Its Glory. The exhibition was about the structure and architectural glory of Chester Cathedral, and for Cycles the main themes focus on structure and shape, in both architecture and life-forms.

This premiere performance took place in Chester Cathedral on their Kawai piano. It was introduced by the vice-dean, Canon Peter Howell-Jones, and attended primarily by the exhibiting artists and invited guests.
