About this painting
I've often identified with the mythical Sisyphus, a stoic character, eternally, yet carefully and deliberately working at a task. With in hope, in hard times, yet with a joy in the task.
Here Sisyphus moves in stages from the distance towards us, passing different scenes and experiences. Van Gogh can be seen sowing seeds in one field. In the sky, the gods mock him, but who has the last laugh? |
