About this painting
This was painted for a competition with the theme of Nature. Although unconsciously conceived, I interpreted the wasp as representative of energy and inventiveness. Later, the wasp represented mechanical energy, as these insects are like little robots.

A powerful green ground was used, then an underpainting in turquoise. As colours are relative, the turquoise makes subsequent grey glazes appear pink. In daylight the flesh tones are pink and realistic but when the picture is turned to the shade they become an eerie green.
