About this painting
An idea about social oppression, perhaps class division. Like many ideas, it was an instant unconscious sketch, so exact interpretations are uncertain, but like the contemporaneous 'Them And Us' the theme is oppression and control. The white cliffs were a clear part of it, but it wasn't consciously about, say, migration.
