About this painting
One of my largest paintings of the year, this was inspired by the heatwaves of 2026. It was also inspired by French academic painter Alexandre Cabanel, and the composition echoes his 'Ophelia'.
The sun here is certainly angry, the victim certainly too hot in her desert. Her hand has transformed into a liquid caterpillar, a symbol of summer, as she grasps for some relief. The scattered flowers, also echoes of the foliage in 'Ophelia', are as dried as the distant 'hand' made from buddleja wood. |
