About this painting
I wanted to paint a picture that has no colour, only texture, and immediately thought that the paintings of van Gogh or Monet would be ideal, not only because of their deep brushwork, but also because of their very reputation for colour.

This picture is about the spirit of van Gogh, an artist perhaps more popular for his tragic life than his artwork. Here are his sunflowers, white, dead, a ghost, a spirit. The colour is gone, the life is gone, only this death mask remains, like an icon, an idol to be worshipped, like the life of an artist as opposed to the work of an artist.

Technical details
The picture is painting in acrylic modeling paste, a creamy white material with similar handling to royal icing. Essentially an artist quality plaster, the paste is a mix of white marble dust and acrylic polymer.
