About this painting
Developed for the annual competition held by the Museum Of Modern Art in Wales, Machyllenth. The subject was The Love Messenger, the final section of the poem Ode to the Summer (Awdl yr Haf) by R Williams Parry.

I interpreted the poem as the recollections of a summer past by an old man, so decided to paint a figure in a dull room recalling a bright summer from years before.

An ancient cracked figure sits, as megalith in a room of grey. Rain falls, and flanked by photographic memories he reaches for an azure summer past.
