This Is How A Painting's Made

This is how a painting's made:
a gap in time for thought to slice
and pray and bend
the black to white
A splash of day inside a night.
A whim or dream,
a glance of ghost.
A less right there
and here a most.
A curl or frond
by velvet glove
A fear, a hope,
a stroke, a love.
