African On The Common

Slowly like prayers or sex,
and powerful as a T-Rex
the thick willow was pushed,
pushed to creaking bend
on the damp November morning.

Hard as splitting hails,
and rough against the cheek
of the African elephant.
The grey unwanted immigrant
vandalising soft England's nature.
