Two Years To Go

The bridges are burning
look out below
There's two years to go
Two years to go

The houses are screaming
Cats munching rats munching left over rags
and the brimstone expanding
over wide-eyed and foaming
The children don't know
what the pidgeons do
that there's two years to go
two years to go

Lights flick and spurtle
in a desperate clutching
at electric salvation
from their dysfunctional nation
they remember the days when
their filament loved every glow
in the times of sunshine and slow
when we had forever to go
but that was before
when we weren't poor
now it breaks my heart to know
that we have two years to go.

The rainfall tonight is worse than before
it tells me that god has broken the law
and the kids on the corner
are attacking the door
perhaps I'm not the only to know
that we have two years
two years of tears
two years of cracking
and whips in arrears
two years parachuting
without silk and our gazes below
we have two birthday's left
a handful of months
600 days and a mouthful of snow
two years
just two years left
two years to go.
