The Dive

Just one push, beat.
One gentle downward swell.
The dust-winged sparrow
for one time bite was still,
hovering in the arms of gentle gravity,
then he fell.

Down like a comet
toward hell and ground.
Streaking point first
Like a polished steel
dart.

Down like an angel,
down like lucifer afire.
Spinning in infinity.
The blue air sliced
apart.

Melting into form.
The feathers drip and glow
like brass.
Like a rifle round,
steadfast towards the victim target,
the ground below.

Faster than sound and shadow
on this sun bright day.
The new mown lawn,
the public park love
and smells of summer.

One last blink of gold.
The hard floor the sparrow kissed, and died.
