The Elements

Air in force and breath,
fresh death's slice.
Blue and free.
Keen and cold.

Touching the flame,
white gold.
Hot, intense.
The fury of an eagle's pounce
and a deer's sense.

Into water, and raw salt.
Deep and rich,
thick, black,
dark and powerful.
The minds of gods,
and the hearts of men.
East to west and back again.

To shore, to rock.
Earth's crust and living dirt.
The gut of mashed existence.
Hard, heavy,
ascending in track,
along the back
of the iron mountain,
to the sky.
