Love Poem

I didn't realise I was unhappy,
that every day was grey,
that gentle winds had stopped for me
and all my feathers had fallen away.

I didn't know that my routine
had turned to walls of glass,
that weeks like breaths exhaled, had passed,
with pointlessness from first to last.

I didn't see that I was lost,
among the island tribes,
though eyes that saw me knew my death,
my zombie stance, and lack of life.

I didn't know that I was sad,
that smiles of sun hid rain,
that fires in the fog were phantoms,
distant dreams of flame.
I didn't know that I was loveless
until the day you came.
