Dinosaur Footprint
Here a dinosaur once stood,
in this footprint.
A casual hole
upon the floor of rock.
A million years or more
ago here it was hot.
Alive.
A steamy jungle,
thick and green.
Mosquitoes, monsters,
lizard things with wings
played within the scene.
An alien watcher
man, I stand.
Right now, look.
My foot is there.
Touching that creature long dead.
Everyone it knew is dead.
Everyone it met and everything like it.
All that is left
is this mark it made one day in the mud.
This Y shaped hole
where once it stood
long long ago.
